Family advisory support for situations where mental illness, financial access, and legacy decisions interact in ways that increase risk, reactivity, or instability, requiring thoughtful structure and deliberate recalibration rather than reactive urgency.
Support for families navigating complex decisions under emotional strain
Families often reach out when they are trying to support an adult child with mental illness and the situation has become too challenging to manage alone. They need guidance that is both emotionally attuned and structurally sound. Avoided decisions surface, financial resources or trust structures increase pressure, and periods of instability or step down care require recalibration. Fear, urgency, or guilt begin to shape behavior and expectations.
Without defined structure, well-intended support can quietly increase volatility and limit future options.
I help families slow things down, identify the emotional and structural patterns at play, and move toward decisions that are compassionate and sustainable.
The aim is to move from reactivity or paralysis toward steadier, more workable paths forward.
* Family Advisory work is not therapy and does not replace clinical treatment. It often runs alongside it, supporting clearer thinking and more grounded decision-making when emotional, psychiatric, and structural demands converge.
Let's work together toward a steadier path forward.
When this helps
This work can be helpful when:
Parents and young adult children remain emotionally, financially, or functionally enmeshed and greater independence is the goal
A family feels caught between the desire to help and uncertainty about the next step
Decisions related to an adult child’s mental illness feel high-stakes or destabilizing
A period of instability, step-down care, or re-entry requires recalibration of roles, structure, and expectations
Trustees or advisors are overseeing a beneficiary with complex emotional or psychiatric needs
Financial resources or legacy planning are intensifying strain or complicating already difficult decisions
Roles and boundaries have blurred, and existing arrangements no longer feel sustainable
What I offer
Transitional Roadmap
The Transitional Roadmap is a structured, goal-oriented advisory process designed to stabilize systems during critical transitions with defined scope and clear expectations.
When engaged by parents or fiduciaries, the focus remains with the adults responsible for structure and oversight, and therapy with their child falls outside the scope of this process. When engaged directly by an individual, the focus centers on re-entry, stability, and alignment across treatment and financial systems.
*This process is advisory in nature and does not replace clinical care.
Parent Coaching
Parent coaching supports parents who feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or caught in patterns that no longer serve them.
Together, we look at the dynamics that keep repeating and shift responses toward consistency rather than escalation. This includes examining how financial support, crisis intervention, repeated rescuing, or inconsistent limits may reinforce dependency and dysregulation.
Sessions are practical and focused, helping parents clarify boundaries, strengthen follow through, tolerate discomfort, and step back from over functioning so their child has space to develop agency and accountability.
Clinically Informed Advisory For Fiduciaries
This service supports trustees, fiduciaries, attorneys, and family offices making financial decisions that affect an individual living with mental illness, emotional vulnerability, or impaired judgment.
The focus is understanding behavioral patterns over time and the role money plays within them. Financial support can stabilize, but it can also reinforce avoidance, dependency, entitlement, or crisis driven behavior. Advisory guidance helps fiduciaries distinguish clinical need from emotional urgency and determine whether decisions promote long-term stability or sustain risk.
-
Engagements may include defining parameters around financial access, discretionary requests, and communication protocols. Clear frameworks reduce ambiguity, minimize conflict, and protect both the individual and the fiduciary relationship.
I serve as a steady thinking partner, helping fiduciaries weigh requests and communicate financial boundaries with consistency and sound judgment.
Trust Protector Engagements
In select cases, I serve as or support a trust protector to ensure fiduciary decisions reflect emotional capacity, behavioral patterns, and long-term goals. This role adds a layer of judgment when trust provisions intersect with mental illness, impaired insight, or recurring instability. The focus is maintaining steadiness and sound discretion when pressure or urgency threatens to distort decision-making.
FAQ’s
-
No. Family Advisory work is not therapy. It focuses on decision-making, structure, and financial or role based considerations that sit alongside mental health care rather than within it. This work is advisory and offered on a private pay basis without Superbills.
-
Engagements are structured based on the needs of the system. In many cases, the focus is on parents, fiduciaries, and other decision makers responsible for oversight and support. In select circumstances, I work directly with the individual through a defined advisory process, such as the Transitional Roadmap. This work does not replace clinical treatment.
-
This work integrates psychological insight with structural and financial decision-making. The focus is on understanding patterns over time and how choices around money, boundaries, and access shape behavior and stability.
-
No. Many families seek support when their current approach is no longer effective, decisions feel reactive, or pressure is increasing, even without an acute crisis.
-
This advisory role does not replace legal counsel or clinical care. It offers an additional layer of perspective focused on behavioral patterns, emotional dynamics, and how financial decisions may support or undermine stability over time.
