Moving forward, one step at a time

Case management

Trust, rapport, and collaboration

Many individuals have a negative impression of treatment based on their previous experiences; they are often scared and distrusting about starting something new.  My work is centered upon the development of a safe and trusting relationship. The relationship should be viewed as a partnership wherein both parties have equal footing.  My process is one of collaboration, both with my clients and with their providers.

Positive reinforcement, encouragement, and compassion

I want my clients to see me as their team captain and personal cheerleader; I highlight their successes and show compassion when they express their discomfort.  It’s important that clients feel safe with me and it’s important they feel my excitement about our work together.

Skill building

My goal is to teach my clients new skills to be better equipped to handle the challenges of day to day life.  I will never do the task for my clients; this only enables dependence.  Instead, I scaffold the task, teach the skills involved, model the behavior, and coach my clients throughout the process.

Data collection

I utilize a variety of data collection methods in my work.  This allows me to better understand clinical patterns, identify triggers to dysregulation, and develop strategies to target problematic behaviors.
